Eyes

The major diseases that affect our eyes are Cataract, Glaucoma, Age Related Macular Degeneration, Squint, Detached Retina, Myopia and Hypermetropia. As eyes are the most precious organs of our body, it is important to take necessary steps to keep them healthy and disease free.

Given below is a list of certain basic things, which, if followed, can prevent a number of eye diseases and help in maintaining good eyesight:

  • If you are doing a concentrated activity such as reading, sewing or working on a computer, give your eyes rest for short periods of five minutes at 30-minute intervals. Closing your eyes, looking away from your work or staring off into space are actions that can help reduce stress on your eyes.
  • Cover eyes with palms: This technique called ‘palming of eyes’ also helps soothe tired eyes. All you need to do is sit comfortably, breathe deeply and cover your eyes with the palms of your hands.
  • Blink Often: Blinking breaks the continuous focus while reading or looking at a computer screen and increases the amount of concentrated activity you can perform.
  • Protect your eyes from the direct rays of the sun and any kind of hazardous substances.
