Preventing Outbreaks or Epidemics

An Epidemic occurs when similar cases a specific disease in a certain region, among a fixed group of people, over a particular period of time takes place.

  • Visit a doctor: It is important consult a doctor if you or a family member shows symptoms of diseases that are known to turn into an epidemic.

  • Unhealthy Lifestyle: A large number of epidemics are caused due to unhealthy lifestyle like eating or drinking contaminated items, lack of cleanliness or sanitation and the like. Cleaning your surroundings helps prevent epidemics from occurring.

  • Warning signals: If a few people in a certain area get a similar disease it means an epidemic is in the making. Warning signals should be immediately sounded and all people in the region should get medical counselling.

  • Follow guidelines: Cooperate with the health department and follow prescribed guidelines or action-plans to win over an epidemic.

  • Avoid spreading rumours: Try to ensure that there is no rumour or misinformation regarding the epidemic or its control.
