During the 10th Plan, it was decided to introduce a composite Centrally Sponsored Scheme ''Quality Improvement in Schools'' by inter-alia converging the following components :

1. National Population Education Project
2. Environmental Orientation to School Education
3. Improvement of Science Education in Schools
4. Promotion of Yoga in Schools
5. International Science Olympiads

The 10th plan outlay for this scheme is Rs 115 crore. A budget provision of Rs 10 crore was made for the year 2005-06. The composite scheme has since been approved by the government in November 2005.
