State Schemes
 

The government has launched different schemes for the promotion of agriculture in the country. These schemes deal with the development, mechanization, storage, transport, insurance, marketing and use of new technologies for specific agricultural commodities. Departments of Agriculture at the State level have  introduced some programmes while others are centrally sponsored schemes. Here is a list of agricultural schemes that are currently in operation in a few States –

Andaman and Nicobar Island: The Department of Agriculture runs the following schemes for the agriculture sector:
  • Multiple Cropping Programme
  • Development, rejuvenation and multiplication of plantation, spices and horticultural crops in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Farmers Training Programme or Transfer of Technology
  • Plant Protection Programme
  • Mechanized Farming Programme
  • National Agricultural Insurance Scheme
  • Distribution of agricultural inputs and assistance for marketing of farm produce
  • Uplifting traditional cultivation in tribal areas
  • Soil conservation programmes
  • Augmentation of minor irrigation facilities

Centrally Sponsored Schemes: Four types of centrally sponsored schemes are functional in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

These are as follows:

  1. Schemes of National Horticulture Board
  2. Coconut Development Board Schemes
  3. Macro Management Schemes
  4. APEDA Schemes

Andhra Pradesh: Various schemes for development and growth of agriculture undertaken by the State agricultural department are mentioned below:

  • Integrated Scheme of Oil Seeds, Pulses, Oil Palm and Maize also known as ISOPOM. This scheme provides programme support for increasing production and productivity of oilseed crops such as groundnut, sunflower, castor, sesame, safflower, soybean and linseed; pulses such as red gram, green gram, black gram and Bengal gram; oil palm and maize.
  • Intensive Cotton Development Programme
  • Work Plan on macro management basis - Andhra Pradesh Training of Women in Agriculture (ANTWA)
  • AP Economic Restructuring Programme (APERP)
  • System of Rice Intensification (SRI)
  • Farm Mechanization

Assam: The State Government implements most centrally sponsored schemes related to agriculture such as macro management, technology mission for integrated development of horticulture in the north eastern States and water harvesting schemes.
