The year 2008 witnessed a lot of action with new features and sections being introduced to the Portal. Many new users also registered with india.gov.in to benefit from acquiring all Government Information & Services through single window access. Few of the augmented sections are given below:
Health: The entire section was revamped with new sub-sections being introduced on topics such as child care, rehabilitation, family welfare, medical insurance and government schemes.
Agriculture: This new module was added to the Citizen section to provide relevant citizen centric information to the farming community. It included detailed resources on cultivating crops, rearing livestock and agricultural inputs.
RTI Complaint and Appeal: In order to assist citizen's search for truth, this new section assists citizens seeking answers from the Government under the Right to Information Act, it provides details about filing a complaint, checking its status and filing an appeal.
Business: New modules on Investment Opportunities and Incentives, Consumer Rights and Corporate Governance were introduced to help young entrepreneurs make informed choices when it comes to the growth of their business.
6th CPC: National Portal of India provided all support to 6th CPC for online dissemination of information as well as supported its decision making process through its web based software support. National Portal published the final report along with all annexures/studies undertaken by the Commission in the web space immediately after it was presented to the Finance Minister. Due to popularity of this platform with stakeholders, the infrastructure was also extended for releasing Office Memorandums, Gazette Notifications, etc. on implementation of the 6th CPC. Besides providing wide and ease of access to stakeholders this also resulted in reduction of time and cost on printing and circulation of the report & notifications.
Events such as the Republic Day Parade, Union Budget and Rath Yatra were webcast live. This footage is currently available as video-on-demand.
Other than this, a number of Government Documents, Forms, Schemes, Online Services, Acts and Rules were also added to the Central repository of the National Portal of India.

Entrepreneurship in Agriculture & Allied Sectors: This newly introduced section offers details about launching businesses in the agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, sericulture, animal husbandry and dairying sectors. These fields offer lucrative business opportunities in which investors around the world are tapping into. They are also relatively easy to start from the finance and manpower perspectives. The growth of agriculture related businesses is beneficial because it not only meets the nutritional needs of citizens but also brings about a rise in income levels and the quality of life in rural areas. |
