Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited—WAPCOS is a ‘‘MINI RATNA’’ and ISO 9001 : 2000’’ accredited Public Sector Enterprise under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Water Resources incorporated on 26 June 1969 under the Companies Act, 1956. WAPCOS has been providing consultancy services in all facets of Water Resources, Power and Infrastructure Sectors in India and abroad. Its registered office is situated at 5th Floor, Kailash Building, 26, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi-110001. Main fields of specialisation of the company cover Irrigation and Drainage, Flood Control and Land Reclamation, River Management, Dams, Reservoir Engineering and Barrages, Integrated Agriculture Development, Watershed Management, Hydropower and Thermal Power Generation, Power Transmission and Distribution, Rural Electrification, Ground Water Exploration, Minor Irrigation, Water Supply and Sanitation (Rural and Urban), Environmental Engineering including Environmental Impact, Assessments and Environmental Audit, Ports and Harbours and Inland Water Ways, Rain Water Harvesting, Surveys and Investigation, Human Resource Management, System Studies and Information Technology.
WAPCOS has also been venturing into newer fields such as Software Development, Financial Management System, Technical Education, Quality Control and Construction, Supervision, Road & Bridges, apart from turnkey assignments in Hydro Power Projects and Water Harvesting Structures. WAPCOS has successfully completed/ongoing consultancy assignments abroad in 39 countries and is registered with various international funding agencies for participating in the funded projects like World Bank/International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, Food & Agriculture Organisation, International Fund for Agricultural Development, United Nations Development Programme, World Health Organisation, West Africa Development Bank, Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), etc. Apart from India WAPCOS is currently engaged in providing consultancy services in Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
WAPCOS has been rated as ‘‘Excellent’’ by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) for more than 12 years and has been awarded Prime Minister’s MoU Award for ‘‘Excellence’’ for the year 1998-1999. WAPCOS ranked amongst the top 10 PSEs for the year 1999-2000 and received ‘‘Merit Certificate’’ for ‘‘Excellent’’ performance during 1999-2000; 2000-2001 and 2003-2004 from Hon’ble Vice-President of India. WAPCOS received award of ‘‘Excellence’’ for achieving MoU Targets for the year 2001-2002 from Hon’ble President of India. WAPCOS has received EEPC Awards on a number of occasions for highest export earnings amongst Consultancy Organisations. WAPCOS has also been awarded Silver Trophy of ‘‘SCOPE Award for Excellence and outstanding contribution of the Public Sector Management—Smaller Public Enterprises Category’’ and ‘‘Enterprises Excellence Award’’ by Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering for the year 2003-04.
