Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Mission) seeks to accomplish a goal of making India clean by 2019. With this objective and to fulfill Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Clean India, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on 2 October at Rajpath, New Delhi. The Prime Minister said it was our social responsibility as citizens of India to help fulfill Gandhiji's vision of Clean India, by his 150th birth anniversary in 2019. The mission exhorts people to devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness. As many as nine public figures: Mridula Sinha, Sachin Tendulkar, Baba Ramdev, Shashi Tharoor, Anil Ambani, Kamal Hasan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Team Tarak Mehta ka Oolta Chashma - have been invited to make a contribution towards Swachh Bharat, share the same on social media, and invite nine other people to do the same, hence forming a chain. People are also exhorted to share their contributions on social media using the hash-tag #MyCleanIndia.
The MyGov platform recently launched by Government of India is an example of effective citizen participation for better governance as envisioned in GIGW. The MyGov platform offers citizens 3 choices to engage: Groups: Themes that the Government considers priority for inviting citizen inputs. Creative Corner: To invite inputs on branding aspects of Government initiatives like designing banners/logos, suggesting a name, or creative punch line etc. Open Forum: All issues of national importance can be discussed here widely amongst all citizens registered on MyGov.
