September is the month of festivals starting with Ganesh Chaturthi. The spectacular eleven day Ganesh Chaturthi festival honours the birth of the beloved Hindu God Lord Ganesha. Onam is also observed in this month. Onam is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala during this time.

5th of September is celebrated as Teacher's Day to honour Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the great teacher, academic philosopher and India's Second President. Id-ul-Zuha is also a significant festival observed in the month of September.
