Lakshadweep Fisheries Department is an omnibus Department for Lakshadweep established on 1959.The Department after inception,introduced mechanized boats for fishing especially for tuna, the only abundantly available resource in Lakshadweep waters.

Sheep Husbandry Department came into existence in the year 1962 with the main objective of promoting sheep and goat development in the state having sufficient scope and potential owing to bountiful pastures and meadow lands presenting nutrient grasses and herbage for the pastoral activities.

The department of Animal Husbandry Veterinary Services started functioning independently from 1945. The department is playing a vital role in providing healthcare services to livestock, extension and training to farmers, implementation of Socioeconomic programs, coducting Sample Survey and Animal Census programs periodically in the State.

The main objective of the department is to make farmers, farm labors and landless farmers of rural area economically self sufficient by providing them additional employment in their village itself through implementation of dairy development by organizing village level dairy cooperatives and procuring milk through them. The milk, so procured, is made available to urban consumers in the form of fresh, pure and disinfected milk and different milk products prepared from it at reasonable price.
