Most of the Records in custody of the Department are in deteriorating state due to unscientific storage in the past, vagaries of nature, human vandalism and natural decay by age, such records need urgent repair and rehabilitation by various processes of conservation of records. The Department propose conservation of of archival records on out-sourcing basis with a view to conserve the archival heritage of capital city, Delhi.

Digitalization & Micro-filming of records & subsequent to be put on the web-site of the Department through customized software for retrieval of the digital information. It will also be facilitating in helping organizations to meet the requirements of the Right to Information Act.

Preservation activities aim to minimise the physical and chemical deterioration of records and to prevent the loss of information. Delhi Archives is making earnest efforts to ensure longevity to documents in its custody through preventive, curative and restorative processes. The records which are in the form of files, books, volumes, rare manuscripts, maps and photographs are stored as per archival standards in compactor system. The stack area is provided with state of the art fire-fighting system and temperature controlled atmosphere.

Delhi Archives established the Reprography Unit for microfilming of permanent nature of records in order to save its contents for longer period for research as well as ensuring the safety of the original record from mishandling and dissemination of information.

Bhagat Singh Archives and Resource Centre is established by Department of Delhi Archives and inaugurated on 23rd March 2018 on the solemn occasion of the martyrdom day of three great Indian martyrs - Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Delhi Archives is one of the richest and scientifically maintained archives of India. It has stored a rich heritage of Delhi's ups and downs and transformation of Delhi in to the capital city. Delhi Archives is also being used by general public in many ways like issuing the certified copies of the Registration Records of properties, Gazettes etc. It is also responsible for issuing the copy of notifications published in Gazette of India, Punjab Gazette and Delhi Gazette available in the department.
