The State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) of Meghalaya was established in the year 1986 out of the grant received from the European Economic Community (EEC) Aid Programme and is supported by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India (MoRD-GOI), and Government of Meghalaya (GOM).
Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Service came into existence in the year 1972 after the state was bifurcated from Assam. Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Service is functioning with 5 (five) Fire Stations and 29 (twenty-nine) Sub-Fire Stations and 4 (four) temporary Fire Camps in the state being manned by 876 (eight hundred seventy-six) personnel in various ranks.
