Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 was established on 22/07/1986. Initially it was a primary school with class I to V, every class had two sections. Mr. L. R. Patil was the first Principal RADM. R. V. Singh (AVSM) was the first Chairman of this Vidyalaya. The Vidyalaya grew over the years. The first batch of X class passed out from the school in year 1992.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Minambakkam came into existence in May 1972. The Vidyalaya which was situated in the Airport Quarters earlier, was shifted to Airport Lease Land in its own building in the year 1983.
