This Vidyalaya started functioning in the academic year 1984 at Air Force Station Suryalanka Bapatla. The Vidyalaya aims at all round personality development of the students. Kendriya Vidyalaya Ordanance factory Dum Dum is one of the premier and leading acadimics institutions of Kolkata. Established on 9th july, 1986, the Vidyalaya is run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan under the Ministry of Education with an endeavour to facilitate the children of the employees of Ordanance Factory Dum Dum, Defence Personnel and other Central Government offices.

Kendriya Vidyalaya NHPC, Rambi was established in the year 2007 under the aegis of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education.

The government has approved a new scheme named SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) for the purpose of providing seats for the meritorious SC boys and girls in the best private residential schools in the country. Every year, it is expected that about (3000) students would be selected for admission in Class 9 and Class 11 under the scheme.
