Kendriya Vidyalaya, Minambakkam came into existence in May 1972. The Vidyalaya which was situated in the Airport Quarters earlier, was shifted to Airport Lease Land in its own building in the year 1983. The Vidyalaya had Classes I to XII with two sections in each class. Later the Vidyalaya gradually expanded the number of sections from three to four for classes IX and X and two to three sections in other classes. Now the Vidyalaya has strength of about 1600 students and above.
