The idea of encouraging the growth of Secondary Schools with a common syllabus and medium of instruction for the benefit of the children of Central Government employees, including defence personnel liable to frequent transfers was first approved in November, 1962.

Kendriya Vidyalaya at the Air Force Station, Salua is one of the Vidyalayas of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan set up by the MInistry of Education. It is a defence sector institution which was established in 1986, primarily to cater the educational needs of the children of the defence personnel's as well as the floating population of the area.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sitapur, Lucknow was established in the year 1991 under the aegis of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanker was established on 1st April 2007 as a Civil Sector School. The school functions with one section from class I to XII (Science and Humanities stream) with a strength of 530 students and 19 staff.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Burdwan was established in the year 1994 by the sincere efforts of the M.P Shri Sudhir Roy at the C.C.C Complex Alamganj, temporarily. The Vidyalaya has been shifted to its own building at Kamal Sayer (Goda) from July 2004.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Guntakal, Andhra Pradesh was established in the year 1984 under the aegis of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education.
